Breezing through museums with ChatGPT and OCR
Summarise, bullet point, tl;dr and give me the ADHD version of that history lesson.
We’re on holiday, on our only full day in Athens, Greece. As much as we’d like to learn about the marvels of the (genuinely really really nice) Acropolis Museum, we’re running on interrupted sleep and haven’t fully switched off from work yet.
And Gareth had an incredible idea.
See, we were intrigued by this:
But the explanation was long:
So, Gareth scanned it (using iOS16 camera OCR):
Then he put it in ChatGPT and asked for the ADHD version:
We also tried asking it for the tl;dr version and for bullet points. Worked like a charm.
Now we just need something that does it in one click 😄
Smart!
I'd also argue though that the graphic designer there could have designed a more readable panel. Nothing fancy, they could have started with shorter lines. I've never understood why museum texts are just walls of small typography. We should think about the context, right? People are passing by, and most likely not even able to get too close to it then the room is crowded. It makes me feel they never put any effort into designing a good experience.
That is brilliant. Hope you got a chance to read it :)
